How the Body Works

The Body of Christ - The Spirit is the Source

(1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4:11-16, Romans 12:1-8 )

We might as well admit it. There are few doctrines in the church that have brought more confusion to the Body of Christ than Spiritual Gifts. Why would Paul begin this part of his letter with the statement, "Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant?"

We Don't Need To Be Ignorant

1 Corinthians 12:1-2

Ignorance and division have been prevalent in the very place where the Lord through Paul calls for knowledge and unity in the Body. The enemy wants us to be ignorant and divided.  The Lord wants truth and unity (John 17).  Have we not been a Body divided long enough?

“You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray by mute idols”

Anything that is exalted above the Lord is a dumb idol.

The First commandment (Exodus 20:3)

The New Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40)

There is nothing that is in this world that will better suit us than what God has lavishly provided for us!

What are some examples of “mute idols” that are around us and influence us in our culture? What are some examples of mute idols in His church? Can you think of some examples of “mute idols” that may be above God’s will for you?
