Manifestation of the Spirit

It is said by some that Christianity is a leap into the unknown, believing in something that is not tangible or visible.  This is not what the Bible says.  In fact, all through the Bible, the evidence of God is made known through what He has made, and the things He does.  We understand that God exists because we can see His eternal qualities and divine nature in what He has made.  Jesus is the physical manifestation of God.  In space and time in history God walked and lived among us, was crucified and rose again.  The Holy Spirit is revealed in many other ways.

1.     The Gifts Are The Manifestation Of The Spirit

Our text says, "the manifestation of the Spirit is given."  The translated word "manifest" comes from two Latin words, manus, "hand," and fendo, "strike".  The Greek meaning is “exhibit, express, or to bestow. “   In other words, the gifts are plainly expressed exhibited and bestowed on us in such a way that we understand that His existence and presence is obvious.  We can tell that the Spirit exists by the way His gifts are displayed in us.

Discussion:

How is the Holy Spirit revealed in this passage? Describe some ways that you can see God’s Spirit manifested in others and in you.  If we are not seeing the gifts displayed in those who are around us, can we really “see” the Spirit?

(Romans 1:19,20)

Can you think of examples of how we may have cut ourselves off from the power of God?  Is the Holy Spirit free to move intimately among us?  Do we grieve the Holy Spirit by not recognizing His power? Do we have a form of godliness but deny His power?
