Diversity and Unity

1 Corinthians 12:4-6

There is diversity

There are

different gifts

different kinds of service

different kinds of working.

We are all different.

God wants us to be conformed to His image, not to each other.  What the Lord wants to do is make us into the people He created us to be when He made us in His image.  When we try to change what He made, it's like saying, "Lord, you really are very good at what you do, but in this case it's not quite good enough.  I think I can do better."

(2 Corinthians 5:15-17)

It's when we try to conform ourselves, when we try to do things that we aren't equipped to do, that we put pressure on ourselves.

It is not wise to compare us with others. (2 Corinthians 10:12)

Jesus is the focus and source of our faith.

(Ephesians 2:10; Psalm 139:13-16, Hebrews 12:1-2)

Can you think of ways that we have tried to conform ourselves to others expectations? Have you been hurt or hindered because of that?  How did this affect relationship with the Lord and with others?
